At Alphafind, we believe in the transformative power of technology to shape futures and inspire innovation. This belief drives our latest initiative, the Ultimate Tech Quiz (UTQ), a groundbreaking competition designed to boost interest in technology and equip students with critical tech skills at an early age. Here’s everything you need to know about UTQ, its mission, structure, and how it is set to make an impact across Africa.
What is the Ultimate Tech Quiz (UTQ)?
The Ultimate Tech Quiz (UTQ) is a technology-focused competition for students in Africa. It challenges participants to engage with various aspects of technology, from programming and typing skills to problem-solving with tech tools. Our mission is to nurture young tech talent, foster creativity, and also educate the general populace on the effective use of technology.
UTQ Structure: Levels of the Quiz
To make the quiz inclusive and comprehensive, we’ve structured the competition into three distinct levels, ensuring that students from different academic stages can participate and learn.
1. Junior (JHS)
This level is targeted at Junior High School students and focuses on introducing them to the basics of technology. The topics covered include:
- General tech knowledge
- Basics of programming
- Productivity tools (like typing and basic computer functions)
- Foundational skills needed to navigate the digital world
The goal at this level is to boost interest in technology as we expose our young ones to technology in a fun and rewarding way.
2. Senior (SHS)
The Senior level is aimed at Senior High School students and focuses on building actual technical skills. Here, participants dive deeper into:
- Programming (more advanced coding)
- Machine Learning (ML) basics
- Graphic designing
- Web development
- Software and app creation
The goal at this level is to foster hands-on skills that students can use to pursue careers in tech.
3. Ultimate (Tertiary)
This level brings tertiary students into a competitive, innovation-driven environment where they solve real-world problems using technology. Participants are tasked with:
- Developing tech startups
- Creating apps and software to solve societal issues
- Building solutions that have the potential for real-world impact
The goal at this level is to nurture entrepreneurial thinking and tech-driven problem-solving in students who are ready to innovate.
UTQ Pilot: Kicking Off in Ho, Ghana
We’re excited to announce that the first pilot of the UTQ will take place in Ho, Ghana, this year. For this pilot, we will be targeting Junior High School students. The quiz will involve four selected schools, and participants will receive study materials to help them prepare. The competition will consist of a closed-door semi-final round to determine the top schools, followed by a final round that will be held in a production-style setting.
The pilot will serve as the foundation for scaling the UTQ to other cities and schools across Africa.
The Impact We Want to Make
The Tech Quiz is aimed at creating widespread awareness about the importance of tech education from early age by the end of it. The main objective is to impart students with knowledge of both basic and advanced technical skills, which could be useful to them not only in the educational process but later in their professional life. The other important purpose of this initiative is to develop resources for African youth to innovate by means of the technologies. In the end, we trust the young generation to the innovative technologies and this will definitely bring others as they contribute the crucial item need toward the success of Africa's growing tech sector.
The Future of UTQ
The Ultimate Tech Quiz is just the beginning. We envision expanding the quiz to other regions, scaling it up to reach more students, and eventually making it a continental event where young tech talents from all over Africa can participate and showcase their skills.
Together, let’s inspire the next generation of African tech innovators and build a future where technology drives development and opportunity across the continent.
